STAR Pic, Victor, Cody, Soprema, ColinSpotlight Trophy for the Advancement of Roofing (S.T.A.R.) is an awards program designed by the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) to recognize members' unique and outstanding projects completed in the state of Florida. A panel evaluates the entries for inclusion and outstanding performance in each of six categories. McEnany Roofing, Inc. took top honors in the Low Slope category for the Quest Diagnostics Laboratory Re-Roof Project in Tampa, Florida.

This project consisted of approximately 42,600 square feet of mechanically-congested roof area above a highly sensitive work environment. The first two months on the job were dedicated to assisting the General Contractor with numerous mechanical change-outs, modifications, and new penetrations with assurance that all tie-ins and temporary flashings were water-tight.

Mobilizing in July, the height of the raining season, the scope of work included a complete tear-off of heavy flood coat and gravel roof over asphalt BUR and multiple layers of fiberglass insulation on a steel deck. Production was significantly impacted by the multiple trade activity along with requirements of adding additional steel deck fasteners at the perimeters and corners and installing steel decking for abandoned penetrations prior to the installation of the new roof insulation.

The new roof assembly consisted of fastening multiple layers of rigid ISO and tapered ISO; adhering an 1/8 inch Sopraboard, torch-welding a Sopralene Flam 180 base membrane, and torch-welding a Sopralene Flam 250 FR GR cap membrane. Sopralene Flam 180 and Sopralene Flam 180 FR GR membranes were installed to accommodate all vertical flashings. It was an approximately eight month long project. The substantial completion was December 22, 2017.

McEnany’s team was headed by Estimator and Project Manager Colin Hines for this project. The job superintendents were Cody Goodin and Jose Medina. Victor Trejo, the project foreman, was recognized as the most valuable player for the successful completion of the project.
