What to Look for When Hiring a Commercial Roofing Company

hiring a commercial roofing companyTrust. Integrity. Professionalism. Experience. These are all words that you want to associate with the commercial roofing company you decide to hire. More importantly, finding a company that can accomplish a wide range of jobs, from installing a mod bit roof and single ply systems to tile and metal projects, is your end goal.

Consider This

When you select a commercial roofing company, ask yourself the following questions as you narrow down your list. Does the company you’re considering check all the boxes?

Customer list?

Be sure to ask any potential contractor about their customer lists before hiring a roofing company. Essentially, you want to ensure that the company you are considering has been in business for quite some time and has an established list of customers and projects they’ve completed. If a company has a proven track record, the likelihood of their experience is something you can bet on.

Recommendations?

Recommendations and referrals will provide you with great insight into any commercial roofing company you may hire. They should be able to provide adequate recommendations and referrals from past projects and happy clients.

Do their solutions fit your needs?

Whenever you have a project and need to hire a commercial roofing company, you should pay close attention to whether or not they are offering solutions that fit your needs. You may not need a complete reroof, but some companies will suggest it trying to make a quick buck. A company with integrity looks at every deal with a no nonsense approach and won't try and sell you a dog and pony show. Look for someone who will inspect your issue, provide you with an honest estimate, and then walk you through the next steps and how the project would play out from start to finish.

Do they have professional certifications?

One of the major things you’ll want to consider before hiring a roofing company is whether or not they have professional certifications. We believe heavily in obtaining proper certifications and continuing education.

Do they have appropriate licenses?

This one is crucial. Never hire or even consider a contractor or roofing company that doesn’t hold the appropriate licenses. All states require that roofing companies are licensed, so don’t hesitate to ask for proof.

Do they have experience with the type of project you need?

Like we said earlier, not every commercial roofing company is created equally. So when you look to hire someone, be sure that they have experience in the type of project you desire. If they are not experienced installing the type of roof you need, then you might want to steer clear.

Will the company come to you to inspect the issue/project?

Many times, the cause of your problem might not be what you think it is. In fact, it could take a bit of digging to get to the root of the problem. There are other times that a commercial roofing expert could take one look and know exactly what needs to be done. If a commercial roofing company is not willing to come take a look and give you an honest inspection, it might not be worth your time to work with them. This is an indication that they aren’t truly interested in your business and helping you take care of your needs.

Are they insured?

Be sure you ask about insurance. Any roofing company is required to carry two types of insurance — worker’s compensation and liability. If they don’t have both, then that’s a big red flag.

What warranties will you receive?

Hiring a roofing company is an important decision, and more importantly, installing a new roof or making necessary repairs/improvements is a huge financial investment. We know that you want to protect your property and your investment, so a company’s warranty guarantees are important. While it may seem tedious, it’s incredibly important that you digest any warranty documents very carefully. Make sure you fully understand what they will and will not cover, and what language is contained in the terms and conditions.
